GrandDad's Visit

As I mentioned in Juliana's birthday post, Nate's dad (GrandDad) came to help celebrate. We had a very fun and very busy couple days. He kept everyone occupied on Thursday while I slaved over the castle cake on Thursday. ;) We had the big party Thursday night and went for a walk around the neighborhood after our guests departed.

Friday afternoon, Nate and GrandDad took the girls to the pool while I stayed with a snoozing Alexander. We had an early dinner of steak, salad and corn on the cob and headed off to the Marian County Fair. We saw goats, ducks, roosters, chickens and rabbits. After a couple quick rides on the "Little Wheel" ferris wheel and the Dinosaur ride, we were off to the Rodeo. We managed to catch the bucking bronco portion and the calf roping event before Alexander completely fell apart and I had to remove him from the stands. Everyone else caught a little more action before heading out. GrandDad treated us all to ice cream and we went back to the rides. The girls discovered a fun house and went through it several times before our departure. The highlight for me was watching Juliana walk over a vent which shot her dress straight over her head. It was hysterical and she was oblivious which made it even more hysterical! Kathryn's big accomplishment was going on the big ferris wheel with daddy. She finally agreed when he promised he'd hold her real close. She loved it and wasn't afraid at all. Such a big girl! Alexander enjoyed climbing in and out of his stroller and pushing it around by himself. (He also enjoyed my ice cream!) It was a fun evening and Kathryn has asked frequently to go back.

Saturday, we went to the zoo before taking GrandDad to the airport. We covered quite a bit of ground in a short time. As always, the kids enjoyed the animals. Among the highlights: baby flamingos, bison, grizzly bears, brown bears, cougar and wolverine. Once again, the Prairie Dogs were MIA. Maybe next time...

It was a great visit and we look forward to his return.
