The kids sang a song after each trip around the sun and then sang Happy Birthday at the end and Juliana blew out the candle. It was touch and go for a second there as her hair dangled precariously over the candle, but she got the candle out before catching fire and her teacher and I breathed a sigh of relief and gave each other a relieved glance. As always, I very much enjoyed the trip down memory lane to choose pictures to share and ended up with far more than would fit on the poster!

Juliana Grace ~ July 5, 2003
Birth – 7/5/03
Juliana Grace was born at 5:11 PM on July 5, 2003 in Maryland. She was 6 pounds, 14 ounces and was 19 inches long. Her daddy and I liked the name Juliana for a long time and although she was almost named Olivia, we finally decided she looked more like a Juliana. Her middle name, Grace, was her great-grandmother’s name. A few of her nicknames were sweet pea, darlin’ and buttercup. Juliana’s big sister, Kathryn, used to call her “Miss Buttercup.”
1st Year – 7/5/03-7/4/04
Juliana took advantage of my good graces and didn’t start sleeping through the night until she was 10 months old. She had a wonderful 1st birthday celebration and made a big mess with her cake, which we loved since her big sister hardly touched her first birthday cake.
2nd Year – 7/5/04- 7/4/05
Juliana started walking at 15 months and she said a lot of different words, including: shoes, socks, juice, thank you (“da dis”), bye bye (also “da dis”, but said while waving and blowing kisses), sis, cat (“das” generally in a high-pitched squeal), yes, fish, no (“mo” iterated in a deep voice with brow furrowed and drawing out the long “o”) and uh oh, which she said quite often. We went to Disney World for our vacation when Juliana was 18 months old. She really enjoyed meeting the Winnie the Pooh characters. The biggest event of her second year was our move from Maryland to Ohio just before her 2nd birthday. She adjusted quickly to her new surroundings and loves her big girl room.
3rd Year – 7/5/05 – 7/4/06
Juliana continued her own special way of speaking into her third year. She used the word “my” instead of “I” so she would say, “My need a cookie.” She also pronounced “l” as a “y” which she still does and I’ve never tired of her rendition of Mary had a Yiddle Yam. Judana, as she used to pronounce her name, loved Dora the Explorer and named her socks Benny and Tico. When asked in an exasperated tone why she must take her shoes off every time we got in the car, she would tell me, “Cause my want to see Benny and he want see me.” I couldn’t argue with that. Juliana became a big sister to Alexander in September of her second year and loved him from the start. She is a great big sister and helps make sure he’s safe.
4th Year – 7/5/06 – Present
We celebrated Juliana’s 3rd birthday at her grandparent’s cabin in Maryland. She began attending Montessori in September and although it was a difficult first few days, she loves school and excitedly shares what she’s worked on each day. She especially enjoys painting, coloring and drawing. Juliana’s favorite toys are her stuffed dogs. She and her big sister love to play doggie every day. Purple B has always been her favorite blanket and she sleeps with it every night.
